Grilled Vegetable Sandwich Recipe, Easy Indian Evening Snacks

Grilled vegetable sandwich recipe featuring boiled potatoes, tomatoes, cucumbers, a generous amount of butter, and some spicy chutney. In case the name is confusing, this is a sandwich that is grilled with a vegetable filling, not a sandwich with a filling of grilled vegetables. Or, did I just confuse you all further? 🙂 Anyway, this is my kind of sandwich, you guys. It’s immensely versatile and you can have one for breakfast, a snack, at a picnic, served a party, you know?...

Another restaurant review post - this time its Irvin’s Irvin’s Seafood Cze Char, River Valley Road, Singapore. This was a farewell for a colleague and a colleague’s boyfriend, both of whom were moving back to their home countries. Seems to happen quite a bit since Singapore is a popular interim place to move to, chill out, gain some Asian work experience and then head back. Pin This is their specialty though - Sri Lankan crabs in salted egg sauce....

Rava Puran Poli (Sojji Appam)

If with the brinjal vindaloo amma gave me the recipe and waited for it to happen, the same mistake wasn’t repeated with the rava puran poli. She just made it and got my uncle to click pics and send them across. I saved it up to share during diwali because that’s where everyone is looking for quick and easy sweets recipes. Well, this is not necessarily a quick one but it’s definitely tasty....

Rotte With Parippu Curry | Kerala Dal Curry

I am not sure of the origin of Rotte and neither is amma. But I grew up eating this for breakfast at least once a month. I have a feeling it’s a Kannada breakfast item, for some reason. I haven’t tried making these on my own. Since it requires working with raw rice powder and boiling water, etc, (like for kozhukkattai), it requires some practice. But there’s deep frying involved in the end so I hope that compels you to try it....

Sri Lankan Raw Mango Curry Recipe

I could go on and on because I am quite smitten by this cuisine. Similar yet so different from what I am so used to. The first dish I tried from the book is this Mango Curry. It’s similar to our mango pachadi recipe but has its subtle differences. I was disappointed to see that the author hadn’t mentioned the local name for this dish, but anyway, the next recipe I tried, beetroot thel dala seems to be uniquely Sri Lankan and seems to be quite popular too....

Sukhiyan-Sugiyan-Kerala

They sent me these sugiyan pictures over 2 years back. Although the recipe came soon after the pictures, they have been in draft for ages because I wanted to try them myself. That never happened. Sugiyan is one of my favourite sweets and amma makes an awesome sugiyan. I am sharing her recipe and her food photo styling (I find it so adorable how she’s tried with a table cloth and flowers and all) with you as well as my uncle’s photography skills 🙂 Check out my MIL’s tamil-style Suyam Recipe too....

The Theme For Wbb #17 Is...

The event has seen different hosts in the past and it is my honour to be hosting WBB #17 in November 2007. I tried to think hard for a theme, and finally settled on using the first thing that comes to our minds when we say breakfast. Yes, its cornflakes!! The idea for corn flakes began by accident when Dr. Kellogg and his brother, Will Keith Kellog, left some cooked wheat to sit, while they attended to some pressing matters at the sanitarium....

Tomato Mint Chutney

This Tomato Mint Chutney is my mom-in-law’s quick and easy chutney recipe that uses no coconut. She makes this in bulk and stores it in the refrigerator for up a week, serving it with pretty much everything. I made it last month when I got a fresh bunch of mint leaves from Little India. The flavour is just amazing and I get away with making no vatha kuzhambu if this chutney is there for lunch....

Vegan Mango Bundt Cake Recipe

I brought back 4kg of mangoes when I came back after my two-week vacation back home. 4-5 days after I got back, they all they started ripening at the same time and pretty rapidly at that. Vendakka Pachadi Recipe, Vendakka Thayir Pachadi For Onam Sadya

Pachadi, especially vendakka pachadi, is a very common part of a Kerala sadya or wedding meal. Its simplicity balances out the heat of the other curries and side dishes that are seen as more important. I have always had a soft corner for the simple pachadi. Unlike my beetroot pachadi recipe , this vendakka pachadi doesn’t use any coconut. It’s more like an okra raita with some basic ingredients you will most likely have in your pantry....

Avocado Feta Smash On Toast, Step By Step Recipe

Avocado and feta mashed together with a little lime juice, pepper and salt. It really doesn’t get simpler than this but this sandwich, which can either be served open-faced or otherwise, is a very popular brunch item in Australia. Although very good quality feta cheese was available in Sydney and avocados were fabulous when in season, I never made avocado feta smash for our weekend toast in my entire year in Australia....

Challas Or Sarlas

I have made challas a few times but never thought of sharing the recipe, mainly because it’s so ridiculously simple. So this is not much a recipe-sharing exercise but more of me introducing something possibly new to you all 🙂 There are a few different variations to Challas across Kerala but this is how we Kottayam folks make it. It’s a variation of raita in a way, but curd is not added to this onion salad....

Date & Nut Balls: 15

Most supermarkets here have pitted medjool dates which are perfect for making date ladoos. Medjool dates are large, very soft and fleshy, and have tons of fiber in them. Since dates are naturally sweet, you don’t need to sweeten these ladoos although you can if you want to. To make vegan date nut balls , skip the butter or ghee and add some neutral oil or coconut oil for shaping the balls....

Dates Banana Milkshake Recipe (Vegan Option Included)

Dates Banana Milkshake, a combination that’s probably common and should’ve seemed natural to me but I never went beyond this banana milkshake with coconut milk for a long time. One day, a friend and I were talking about the ill effects of sugar on our body and how some natural sugars are lesser of the two evils. She uses date sugar in almost all her beverages and that’s when the lightbulb went off in my head that I can easily add a couple of dates to my milkshakes instead of sugar....

Heart

I always feel inadequate when I need to bake anything. Mainly because I have an OTG without temperature control and just 2 baking dishes in which nothing except a cake can be made. I don’t have muffin trays or pie dishes or even cookie cutters. I normall make round-shaped cookies by patting them into shape with my hands. But if I need anything heart-shaped, that’s a different story, right? But I used my hands again!...
